I am currently a student looking to pursue an undergraduate programme in law in September 2024. I find great interest in work that challenges my creativity and competency and enjoy learning and experiencing new things. I like creating new friendships and meeting new people as I progress in enhancing my information and knowledge.
I volunteered to participate in this job which is being an assistant teacher in a refugee school. I had taught children that ranged between the ages 7-9 years old. In my experience, I taught them on subjects such as math and science at their current respective levels which encouraged me to come up with more creative ways to teach students and keep them attentive in the class. I really enjoyed my time volunteering here because it is not limited to me just learning to work with children and coming up with ways to teach in a classroom but it also opened my eyes on issues related to refugees and made me understand more about their situation. That was actually the main reason why I volunteered as it gave me a sense of helping children in need and who do not have the privellage to have the education that I have. I had also built good relationships with my students and provided a safe-space for them to help them feel more comfortable to ask questions on things they are unclear about and encouraged a more participative class session. I tried to make the sessions as interesting and fun as possible to help students be more engaged in the lesson so the knowledge sticks with them longer.
Inside Scoop is a food and beverage company. I had worked here as a part-timer which my main responsibility is to be a salesperson by serving customers, making waffles and coffees and also cleaning the store. In my experience, I was working right after high school and when I attended college which meant that I had to juggle my responsibilities in my academics and this job. I had not only learned ways to deal with customers which includes the unsatisfisfied customers but also learned to develop relationships with customers especially the ones that frequently buy from the store. This allowed me to boost sales and promote the ice cream, waffles, etc as much as I can. Working here taught me on how teamwork is the foundation to a successful enterprise which involves communication, comprehension and etc. It helped me develop and grow friendships with the workers and made work feel more fun and interesting. I adopted many soft skills primarily self-development and growth, increasing my confidence and communication skills alongside improving my patience and as well as increasing my knowledge on how to make certain desserts such as making waffles and challenging my creativity by plating waffles and ice creams. It made me a more independent person and allowed me to get a taste of how the real working-life looks like.
My main job here was that I was working as a teacher in assisting and teaching the children the role-playing activity. This involved teaching the children on how to be a doctor, veterinarian, fire fighter in the kids world. I had to work with children and learned creative ways to get them to be attentive and follow what I teach them. It really challenged my patience as kids tend to be playful and rebellious however it made me learn more on the ways to teach and be patient with children. This was my first job after high school before Inside Scoop and I left because I wanted to try new jobs to increase my experiences. I have gained many benefits from working here such as it helped me to be more confident and increase my leadership skills as it involved me leading a group of children and helping them enjoy the activity. Not only that, I had also developed good relationships with some of the children which helped them to be more comfortable and to increase their engagement in the activity. I had to be very creative in the way I teach them to prevent the kids to be bored and irratable during the time which did challenge my creativity.
