FINAL YEAR PROJECT

PRODUCTION OF LACTIC ACID FROM OIL PALM EMPTY FRUIT BUNCH

  • Process: Solid-state fermentation of lactic acid by using Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunch as substrate and lactic acid bacteria as inoculum. This experiment was conducted in aerobic conditions for 5 days.
  • Finding: Managed to determine the lactic acid concentration and the reducing sugar content in the fermentation extract.


INTEGRATED PLANT DESIGN

PRODUCTION OF 15,000 MTPA OF 2,3-BUTANEDIOL FROM GLUCOSE

  • Designed a 2,3-Butanediol plant in a theoretical way. This plant included a process flow diagram, economic potential, material and energy balances, reaction and separation, design equations, and heat integration by using Microsoft Excel, sizing and costing equipment with the aid of the simulation software such as Aspen Plus v12 and SuperPro, HAZOP study, and waste management.
