Panel Operator is a critical role responsible for the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of an offshore oil and gas platform from the control room, managing complex automated systems and responding effectively to both routine operations and emergencies. • Monitoring Operations: Constantly observing the status of production processes (flow rates, pressures, temperatures), drilling activities (if applicable), utility systems (power, water, gas), and safety systems through Computer Screen Displays (CSDs) and alarm panels.
• Process Control: Using Human-Machine Interface (HMI) systems to adjust parameters like flow rates, pressures, and temperatures. This might involve starting/stopping pumps, valves, compressors, and other equipment. They ensure processes run within safe and efficient operating limits.
• Alarm Management: Responding promptly and correctly to process alarms. This involves diagnosing the cause of the alarm, taking appropriate action to resolve the issue, and ensuring the alarm is acknowledged and cleared correctly. They need to distinguish between minor upsets and critical emergencies.
• Safety System Monitoring: Closely monitoring the Emergency Shutdown (ESD) system, Fire and Gas (F&G) system, and other safety-critical systems. In an emergency, they are key personnel in initiating or managing shutdown procedures and emergency responses.
• Data Logging and Reporting: Recording operational data, generating reports, and maintaining logs as required. This data is crucial for performance analysis, troubleshooting, and regulatory compliance.
• Troubleshooting: Identifying operational anomalies or equipment malfunctions based on system readings and alarms, and taking initial corrective actions or coordinating with maintenance.
• Compliance: Ensuring operations adhere to company procedures, safety regulations, and environmental standards.
