Perfusionist
1. Prepares and operates the heart-lung machine during open-heart surgery, including the determination and calculation of bypass requirements for each patient.
2. Responsible to monitors and observes operation of heart-lung machine and patient's physiologic variables such as blood temperature, blood composition, and flow rate, and adjusts equipment to maintain normal body functions.
3. Provides and/or directs the provision of autotransfusion services, blood gas analysis (ABG), activated clotting times (ACT) and dialysis.
4. Operates and/or handling the operation of the intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) during and after insertion for selective patient.
5. Correlates and records data obtained during the surgical procedure; including participation in the maintenance of departmental records, reports and charts.
6. Be prepared for troubleshooting in CPB such as oxygenator change out, massive air embolism in CPB circuit.
