- My role involved:
- Researching the effects of film thickness on calibrations of narrowband thermochromic liquid crystal, which is a type of temperature sensor used for mapping thermal distributions.
- Developing a graphical user interface (GUI) to process images captured during thermochromic liquid crystal calibrations using MATLAB Computer Aided Engineering software.
- Designing the test surface for thermochromic liquid crystal calibrations using SolidWorks Computer Aided Design software.
- Performing regular inspections to ensure that measuring instruments (e.g., data acquisition units, data acquisition modules, electronic balance, thermocouple calibrator, film thickness gauge and universal light monitor) are functioning according to specifications and have not passed their calibration expiry dates.
- Managing research grants, searching and liaising with suppliers regarding purchasing of research materials and equipment, fabrication of test surface, as well as periodical calibration and/or repair of measuring instruments.
- Analysing experimental data using MATLAB and Microsoft Excel software.
- Preparing reports, conference papers, journal articles, and presentation slides using Microsoft Word and PowerPoint software.
- Conducting tutorials and laboratory demonstrations for undergraduate students in Aerospace Engineering (Aerodynamics II, Materials and Structures, and Compressible Fluid Flow) and Civil Engineering (Hydraulics).
