Summary

Kenneth Wong See Huat is the founder of People Ideas Culture, focusing on art curatorial, heritage tourism and social innovation consultancy. He is currently sitting as a board member of ICOMOS Malaysia 2024-2026, as well as an active working group committee on nominating new villages for UNESCO tentative listing. As an independent curator and member of ICOM Malaysia, his curatorial proposal was selected by Waley Art Taipei Gallery (2020) and awarded a grant from the Department of Cultural Affairs (2021), as well as a mobility grant to Lisbon (Portugal) under CENDANA (2018). He is also one of the beneficiaries of the SEEDLAB social enterprise incubator under the sponsorship of Petronas and Tata Consultancy (cohort 2023-2024).

  • Recipient of the Asian Cultural Council Research Fellowship (July–December 2025, New York City), conducting research on queer art and the Asian diaspora.
  • Proposed Savour the Canvas, a food art festival in Penang featuring Japanese artist Ayako Suwa and Singaporean artist Janice Wong, in collaboration with Lyf Georgetown Hotel (initially scheduled for June 2025).
  • Siam Reversed — a food art performance presented at Co-Ex, Penang, in March 2025, in collaboration with Pattani artist Anuwat Apimukmongkon, commemorating the demolition of the last Siamese house in Pulau Tikus as an act of art activism.
  • From Jan 2022 onwards, I have been elected as a representative of Malaysia in the quasi-formal Asia Pacific network of ICOMOS. In May 2024, I was officially elected as a board member of ICOMOS Malaysia. I have also sat in the working group committee for New Village nomination for tentative UNESCO listing with ICOMOS Malaysia since September 2021.
  • I have initiated a monthly webinar series starting in May 2022, focusing on the various approaches to interpreting heritage sites. I lead this collaboration with ICIP of the Philippines and Pakistan every third Sunday at noon, investigating the region's various case studies, from rural heritage, industrial heritage, dark history, contested heritage, etc.
  • 06/ 2022 Selected and offered to waive the participant's fees for the Inter-Asia Cultural Studies Summer School co-organized by the Inter-Asia Cultural Studies Society and University Malaya; same for 07/ 2023, remotely with Ahmedabad University, presenting "Transgressing Borders and Queering Futurities" . Selected for the Asian Graduate Student Fellowship 2023 by the Asia Research Institute , National University of Singapore。
