With 30 years of managerial experience in the express and logistic industries, I take immense pride and commitment on achieving my company's vision and mission statements. Being one of the Founding team members for Ezyhaul was a great eye opener on how Technology can make Logistics more efficient. Starting from scratch until expanding to 4 countries within 3 years proves that with a Dream Team anything is possible. My biggest assets would be my leadership and negotiation skills. I believe in building a rapport with my staff regardless of rank or status. This has helped me greatly in fostering a strong foundation of mutual trust and respect amongst my staff. As a leader, I have learnt that it is my responsibility to make my team shine and in order to do so I must focus on their strengths and boost their confidence so that they can tackle their weaknesses. The psychology of being a great leader is actually a humbling experience as I have learnt that sometimes people just need an opportunity, some guidance and lots of belief in them. Managing the Operation, Sales, Procurement Team and dealing with Vendors was my greatest joy in the company as I was exposed to those entire departments in building my exposure in the business. My most valuable experiences were in Securiforce Sdn Bhd. Working with my entire team, I was quick to observe and decipher their strengths and weaknesses. Thus, just by creating a definite SOP (Standard Operation Procedure); monitoring staff's over-time, fuel usage and truck maintenance, I was able to increase the total sales from RM80,000 to RM200,000 in Penang. And within 9 months I was promoted to Melaka to restructure my next team. In Melaka I was able to increase the total sales again by improving the customer services and team spirit. I learnt the importance of cooperation and commitment in a company as work ethic was a major issue here. I'm a strong believer in the principle that 'The family that eats together, sticks together'; so I created a monthly luncheon as well as a celebration of staff's birthdays. I earned their trust and respect by being an understanding yet practical leader. Thus, all my changes were respected and adhered to. I even reassessed their job scopes and job descriptions in order for the company to gain profit in their strengths whilst the staff were aware of their weaknesses and were able to rectify them. By creating a benchmark and firmly standing by it, my team rose to the challenge and actually raised the bar of performance. Thus, my most memorable moment was when the Melaka branch was the first in Malaysia to receive ISO (International Organization for Standardization) for its quality management system and achieve the renowned TAPA certification. My varied experiences in the administrative and managing fields have taught me the importance of being independent as well as a team-player. I place a high value in integrity and self-esteem and I strongly believe in adhering to them.
