  • Company Overview: Hired by Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS)- Seconded to ENERGAS (wholly owned by PETRONAS)
  • Administering and providing guidance to relevant risk management consulting role to ENERGAS in relation to new risks to be ventured including providing input for the Underwriting Guidelines.
  • Developing and establishing Risk Management Policy and updating policies that will reflect good governance.
  • Undertaking risk study in determining the viability of self-insuring identified PETRONAS assets or risks as well as analyzing risk exposures for programmes underwritten by ENERGAS and recommending risk mitigation measures for ENERGAS protection programmes.
  • Maintaining and managing structured credit assessment of Insurers and Reinsurers to manage the potential treat of Counterparty Credit Risk to ENERGAS; and continuously monitoring ENERGAS Insurers and Reinsurers Aggregation limit.
  • Developing and maintaining counterparty credit risk management policies and guidelines. Assess capacity, capability and performance of insurers and reinsurers. Monitoring aggregation risks of insurers and/or reinsurers and monitor insurer’s rating and financial stability.
  • Periodically analyzing the risk exposures to ENERGAS portfolio and recommending risk mitigation measures for implementation by coordinating, planning and participating in Insurance Risk Surveys.
  • Initiating and participating in risk insurance surveys at locations where ENERGAS participate to obtain the best risk mitigation measures possible.
  • Reviewing and following-up on risk recommendations coming out of risks surveys for all risks that ENERGAS participates.
  • Providing insights and review calculated 'Estimated maximum Loss (EML)'. The EML date to Underwriting Committee and ENERGAS management for better underwriting decision by ENERGAS.
  • Conduct and review the validity and credibility of the Estimated Maximum Loss (EML) scenarios and values.
  • Managing and administering all activities pertaining to ENERGAS insurance claims, starting from incident notification by insured assets until ENERGAS final settlement of claim payments and subrogation and/or recovery.
  • Maintaining Claims Provision database to monitor movement and/or adequacy of claims reserves, for monthly reporting to management and quarterly reporting to Quota Share and Stop Loss Reinsurers.
  • Provide analysis of claims data and lesson learnt to provide accurate Company’s situation to management and providing assistance by furnishing claim data required during audits, IBNR computation and rating agencies assessments.
  • On claim reporting, to oversee the development of the insurance claim management and providing regular update to ENERGAS upper management.
  • Strategize and manage claim recovery and subrogation process form ENERGAS perspective following notification of insurance claims from the assured and/or brokers.
  • Analyze the loss ratios for each line of business that ENERGAS participate and report the trending periodically to ENERGAS management for high level business plans and corrective actions.

  • Successfully achieved full compliance to the new law on MACC Act Section 17A for Energas.
  • Successfully proposed and obtained Board approval for the revision of the Energas Underwriting Committee.
  • Established ENERGAS Claims Reserving Policy in reducing volatility of the Incurred But Not Reported (“IBNR”).
  • Ensuring the employees of ENERGAS completed the e-learning on Legal Compliance Framework - Corruption Risk Assessment within stipulated timeframe.

  • Manage claim facilitation by identifying service priorities, enhancing communication, and developing relationships with clients and reinsurers.
  • Develop and implement claims training programs for BMS operating and production units and clients.
  • Monitor legal developments and opinions, conduct research of relevant case law and maintain database of insurance and reinsurance resources.
  • Conduct timely and regular follow-up on claims meeting certain criteria.
  • Assist operations group with problem identification and resolution.
  • Travel to client and reinsurer offices as needed to support sales teams and BMS operating units.
  • Actively communicate with underwriting teams and team managers on issues including but not limited to - coverage disputes, problem markets, claim audits, major/unusual losses, collection issues and delinquent accounts.
  • Coordinate new client integration.
  • Evaluate reinsurance claims based on contract language, standard industry practices and legal precedent.
  • Work directly with senior level executives within ceding company and/or broker to resolve questions and issues that arise from these claims, as well as other internal departments to pursue outstanding claims recoverable in accordance with applicable reinsurance contract terms and conditions.
