Ahilan Jeevanesan

After finishing SPM and while waiting for my results, i have decided to work as a waiter in Chillis while waiting for my results. I worked every week for 7 days. 4 days for 12 hours and 3 days for 5 hours along with my school friends. Over there we met the other staff and the manager, where we learned some collaboration and teamwork skills, in terms of who was taking the orders for each zone/area of the restaurant. It was fun, but at the same time tiring due to the peak hours during lunch and dinner time, where at times the restaurant could get overcrowded. My job as a waiter was to:

• Deliver exceptional, friendly and fast service to process high volume of food and drink orders at peak times.
• Serve meals and drinks with professionalism and care, ensuring timely delivery to maintain high standards of service.
• Support team members during rush hours, demonstrating flexibility and teamwork in a fast-paced environment.
• Maintain excellent customer satisfaction by providing friendly, attentive and proactive service.

My time at Taylor's International School Puchong was less of a hands-on teaching experience, but more of observing the school environment and discussing with teachers the written and unwritten rules in the school. In general, it covers these key aspects:

• Communicate understanding of school culture, roles, and responsibilities of a teacher and various stakeholders, functions of facilities in school and co-curricular activities.
• Demonstrate reflective thinking for professional growth and development as a teacher.
• Function effectively, constructively and respectfully with appropriate goals, responses and behaviour in a global and diverse environment.

During my time in Taylor's International School Kuala Lumpur, I had more of a hands on learning experience on what it was like to teach students. Here is a list on what I did:

• Adapted teaching materials to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities within the classroom.
• Developed lesson plans following government curriculums and exam syllabi.
• Implemented interactive learning activities, stimulating pupil interest and engagement.
• Assisted in planning and executing lesson plans in collaboration with lead teachers, promoting educational consistency.
• Outlined learning outcomes and targets at start of lessons to help focus and motivate students.
