Work History

Mechanical Design Engineer

Part of the FY22 team developing OLED TV model, which is the first OLED model developed in Sony Malaysia.

  • Involved in 3 inches of OLED TV, mainly responsible for 4 unique small metal parts, from designing stage to introducing to mass production.
  • Performed tolerance & force analysis in development stage based on calculation and actual data taking to ensure end user does not encounter any difficulty assembling /disassembling the stands.
  • Involved automation team and PSD team during the development stage for future automation assembly process and parts packing.
  • Collaborated with EMC and electrical teams to tackle electromagnetic wave issues, analyzed pros and cons of different solutions based on cost, safety risk, ease of assembly etc.
  • BOM and 2D drawings preparations and revisions of each of the parts and assembly based on specifications and critical points.
  • Communication between vendors regarding parts performance, specifications, ease of manufacturing etc. for prototypes and for mass production stage.
  • Carried out several tests (panel strength, drop test, vibration test etc.) to ensure the end product meets the internal and international standards.
  • Taking care of 4 unique parts schedule. Planning the schedule details and working on back up plans if there is any risk (especially during the full lockdown MCO times).
  • Responsible for the WWOPS (Assembly operation guide) document for all the inches, overseeing production assembly process during the trial stages.
  • Conduct parts demonstrations using simple yet clear presentation slides, highlighting the details of the parts and comparing it tp other models.

Additive Manufacturing Engineer

Self-learned additive manufacturing engineer, specialized in FDM (Fused Deposition Method).

Hands-on modify, maintenance of the 3D printers by utilizing the knowledge and resources online.

  • Collaborated with IMU university to provide over a thousand face shields to numbers of hospitals, St John's and NGO organizations.
  • Printed simple jigs to assist either me or my team in Sony to conduct our tests/studies.
  • Worked on numerous freelance projects, designed, printed and delivered parts as a solutions to their problems in the planned schedule.
  • Shared a few designs of mine on an open source website to replace/upgrade a certain model of 3D printer, achieved over 700 downloads as of today.
  • Currently working on a few projects/products during my free time, mainly to upgrade my printers to further improve the quality of my prints.

  • Performed tolerance & force analysis in development stage based on calculation and actual data taking to ensure end user does not encounter any difficulty assembling /disassembling the stands.
  • BOM and 2D drawings preparations and revisions of each of the parts and assembly based on specifications and critical points.
  • Communication between vendors regarding parts performance, specifications, ease of manufacturing etc. for prototypes and for mass production stage.
  • Carried out several tests (panel strength, drop test, vibration test etc.) to ensure the end product meets the internal and international standards.

  • Visited partner vendor's factory in Vietnam, Hanoi. Making sure all the metal parts are up to standard while discussed with vendors regarding future improvements.
  • Provided idea to solved a serious light leakage issue due to faulty storage of PMMA material 2 weeks before introduction to the mass production stage.
  • Planned to conduct a cost down study, which could potentially results in a RM1 million cost down, before the department was retrenched due to lockdown and cost issue.
